Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 20, El Burgo Ranero to Mansilla de las Mulas.

We set off from the small hamlet of El Burgo Ranero for another day of walking on paths at the side of a road. It has been a perfect day for walking with blue sky but lots of cloud cover too. We’re very happy to continue following flat paths at the moment too, we know there are big hills ahead!

It is lovely that the paths are shaded with trees, especially for those walkers who will be following this path in the heat of the afternoon.

We’ve had some different scenery today and in particular we were very happy to briefly pass through a poplar plantation. Castilla and Leon, where we are now, is well known for growing this tree type.

We also passed a large irrigation channel, very important in this area.

The highlight of the day, however, was Reliegos with it’s very impressive and perfectly maintained wine cellars or bodegas as they are known. These are in use at the moment.

We’ve met lots and lots of interesting people walking The Camino. However there are also quite alot of people who cycle it and some who travel by horse!

Today in Mansilla de Las Mulas.

Viloria de Rioja. Day 10

Finally we crossed the River Elsa to tonight’s small village of Mansilla de las Mulas.

Tomorrow we head towards the City of Leon. It’s going to be quite a change after being in such a remote area!
