Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 21, Avonmouth to Oldbury on Severn.

Today started with a two hour walk along the very busy and noisy road through Avonmouth Docks. There was a constant stream of lorries and movement of traffic but all very interesting. We certainly needed to look out when crossing roads.

Just as we left the dock area we were greeted by a sign for South Gloucestershire. A real highlight of the day. Woohoo our fourth county!

More diversions today but when we eventually reached The Severn Way along the coast things changed completely and all was peace and quiet. We immediately caught our first glimpses of The Severn Bridge in the distance and were in awe of it’s incredible structure as it came ever nearer. It was amazing to walk directly underneath it and then of course start to view the second bridge.

A section of the route was through fields and we decided it would be a good spot for another Q&A with J&K. You can hear we are in a sheep field and also that it was a very windy day! Hope you enjoy episode 2.

  1. Really enjoyed the Q and A today.

A question for the next Q and A what made you choose to walk from Lands End to John O Groats and not vice versa?

  2. Just been catching up with your progress after being away for awhile. Recognising some places from Ian’s bike ride. Had a little walk on the Taunton Bridgewater Canal myself, but got called away when Ian broke his wheel and had to swop bikes. Just on our way to Jura now but still hoping to meet you at some point. Well done and keep going! X

  3. That’s two of the Severn bridges crossed off, well done. Q&A with J&K is excellent and I loved the guest sheep in this one. He, or more correctly she, kept the pace going nicely and added a real touch of the countryside .
My question is this, now you have crossed two of the Severn bridges when will you be crossing the remaining five?
