Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 32, Palas de Rei to Arzua.

We left lovely Palas de Rey early, and in the dark, for the long walk to Arzua. It was another really cold morning too, 2⁰C.

Our walk initially took us out on roads through the small hamlet of Carballal. We then moved onto really good, tree covered woodland tracks.

This has been a day of lots of ups and downs we have crossed six rivers, with many being in valleys. In the large town of Melhide we used the only large bridge of the day.

We are walking The Camino Francés but there are many different Camino routes. Melhide is where The Camino Primitivo joins our route. We had expected today to be really busy but it’s actually been lovely and quiet, maybe because we left so early! Melhide was our lunchtime stop too.

So, it’s definitely been a day of ascent and descent but also great paths, amazing views and rivers.

Two days to go, we’re planning another long day and early start tomorrow so as we can have a shorter final day. Fingers crossed!

  1. Just stunning photos. Just been loving sharing your adventure. Sorry we couldn’t plan a surprise visit to join you! Can’t believe it will be over soon!

  2. The last few days have seen us put in some serious mileage (by our standards, not yours!) but they’ve flown by. Excited about finishing.
