Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 32, Stone to Stoke on Trent.

We had a lovely start to the day when Drew Wilson came to catch up with us and also move our main kit to our next destination. It was great to have a chat and find out lots of  local information. There was a bit of ‘Spine’ discussion too of course! Thank you so much Drew for all your help.

A short walk along roads soon brought us to The Trent and Mersey Canal. When we stepped onto the towpath it really was like going into another world. So peaceful and quiet. This canal was also the busiest we have been on, but everything just seems to glide slowly by. We passed a boatyard where they were repairing and maintaining the narrow boats. There were also lots of boats moving along and using the locks. A few of these were set up as shops and selling various goods.

Also along the way were lots of yellow iris and a variety of other flowers adding to the beauty of this canal.

As we neared Stoke we passed the famous Wedgwood factory and also different signs of Stoke’s industrial heritage.

As it was a shorter walk today we decided it was time for episode 3 of Q&A with J&K. Hope you enjoy viewing it and thank you for the questions.

  1. It was great to see you Kevin, and also great to meet Janet, sorry it was so fleeting.
I’m glad you enjoyed this section of the canal and I hope tomorrow will be even more interesting for you with a lot more history of Stokes industrial heritage. Hopefully you will see why I am proud of the city and enjoy running along these stretches often.
Tomorrow would be a good idea to leave early as it is likely to be even busier especially as you pass Burslem and Westport lake, not just because the lake is popular and there is a jubilee event on but also as a Robbie William’s concert is being held in his home town at Port Vale.
