Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 58, Balmaha to Inversnaid.

Luckily yesterday’s rain had stopped and we set off in the dry for our walk along Loch Lomond. We headed straight down to the lochside and absolutely stunning views. The walk took us up and down, sometimes away from the loch but into beautiful lush green woodlands.

As we headed back towards the loch we noticed a seat under shelter by the office at Sallochy Campsite. Sally from Forestry Scotland very kindly let us sit there. We had a chat and then the torrential rain from yesterday returned! We were very lucky as Sally very kindly let us take shelter in her office and sit out the deluge. We had a great chat about different sporting interests and the local area. Thank you so much Sally it was so good to stay dry today!

Our walk continued along the shore and the ever changing colours of the loch in the different lights. We came across a very interesting three metre high sculpture by the Scottish artist Doug Cocker. Our luch stop certainly had an amazing view! We then  followed the high route for a section of the walk. This allowed us to see some incredibly impressive waterfalls.

As we neared today’s finish, again close to the loch, the terrain had lots of ups and downs and twists and turns. This included various sized rocks and tree roots. These required lots of concentration as they were still slippery from the rain.

It’s been a lovely day’s walking with beautiful and ever changing views.

  1. The photos look wonderful, I visited Loch Lomond many years ago and it still looks as beautiful. Keep enjoying this fabulous adventure. PS it always seemed to rain whenever I went to Scotland, no matter what time of year!!

  2. Sorry to hear about the rain but that lushness comes at a price, but good for waterfalls. Good to hear about being saved by the Forestry. Scenery very impressive not all wild moors. I particularly enjoy reading the names of the places, giving it a very Scottish feel. You must be hearing
    some different accents now.
