Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 57, Milngavie to Balmaha.

What a day, West Highland Way, torrential rain, fellow LEJOG walker and an amazing surprise!

We knew the weather forecast said today was going to be wet and it didn’t disappoint. We have walked in absolutely torrential rain for nearly all of the day.

Today’s start to the trail was quite gentle and through trees which was good for shelter. We then moved into the open areas with many ascents and descents. We could just about see the mountains around us through the rain. Luckily we did manage to take a few pictures when there was a short respite from the downpour.

It’s much busier on this trail than anywhere we have walked, in the countryside, on this adventure. When we were chatting to one person we found out she was also walking LEJOG and had covered some of the same route as us. This is the first person doing LEJOG we have met and what an adventure Rachel was having all the way from New Zealand. It was great to swap stories.

We then had the most amazing surprise, Sally and Boyd had driven to see us. We had absolutely no idea they were coming, and they brought the sign too! It was just so great to see them on the side of the road at the end of a long wet day. You couldn’t have timed it better. Thank you so much for travelling so far to come and see us. We appreciate it so much. Looking forward to a fun evening!

  1. A pleasure, so lovely to see you both and in such good spirits after a very wet and breezy day. You are both truly amazing.

  2. I’ve just managed to catch up with you two. I did a section from Balmaha in April. A really nice section. I hope your going to go over Conic hill and not take the short cut🤣😂. It still looks like your enjoying your journey. Well done 💖
