Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 55, Glasgow to Milngavie.

So, in a change to our itinerary we have decided to walk today and rest tomorrow! It’s only been a short distance and we just thought it would be good to complete it today.

It’s been another day of city walking but very different to yesterday. We had an interesting walk through beautiful Kelvingrove Park where they were setting up for the Mela Festival. The Glasgow Mela is Scotland’s biggest free multicultural festival, with music, stalls and much more.

We soon joined the River Kelvin which we were to follow for most of the morning. It took us through more lovely green parks, these were great and certainly well used by runners and cyclists too.  We eventually came out onto the road and followed this, on great pavements, to our destination of Milngavie. We were excited to see a sign for our thirteenth county East Dunbartonshire.

Lots of people have said they like hearing about people we have met. For those of you who remember Robin and Maurice who were building a dry stone wall in Little Strickland we have an update. We’ve stayed in touch and Robin has sent us this amazing picture of the wall’s progress. We think it’s absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much for sending the picture.

Rest Day for us tomorrow before we begin The West Highland Way on Tuesday!

  1. Great photo of the wall and how lovely they have stayed in touch, it may be completed when you walk past on your way home.
    Enjoy your rest day.

  2. Happy Birthday Janet in Scotland and rest day. Hope the weather is better there as just been woken by the rain. Good for a lie in though. Was impressed by the wall. Saw some of that around Holmfirth. Always think of the effort just getting the stone there in the first place.
Hope you can find some nice cakes or scones later on.

  3. Pleased to hear you’re resting today Janet. Happy Birthday- maybe celebrating with scones. Enjoy your day.
