Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 76, Tongue to Farr Bay Inn.

The first views this morning were of The Kyle of Tongue and the causeway that takes traffic directly across to the A’Mhoine Peninsula. Today saw us continuing our journey along The A836 and were very excited to see our first sign for John O’Groats! The road has been a little busier today with people following the well known NC500.

We quickly came to the remote village of Coldbackie with it’s uninterrupted views out to the open sea and the uninhabited Rabbit Islands. Our Eastwards route then took us away from the coast and across wild and desolate open land. This was made to feel even more wild as there was a strong wind and then the rain set in for the morning! We eventually made our climb up to the highest point and after much searching found a rock to sit on for lunch. No benches here!

As the rain stopped we made our descent down to cross The Borgie River and then on to the very beautiful Bettyhill. The views along The River Naver and out to Torrisdale Bay were absolutely stunning. Our final destination is the equally stunning Farr Bay.

It’s been an interesting day of mixed terrain, weather and views!
