Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 9, Tavistock to Lake.

As promised the day’s weather mainly consisted of strong winds and heavy rain. Luckily we were well prepared, as Alfred Wainwright once said; “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.”

It was great to be on some official trails today, firstly the West Devon Way which was really well signposted across rolling fields with lots of sheep and lambs. This then merged with The Dartmoor Way to take us across a short section of the moor. This was a real highlight, so atmospheric in the strong wind and rain. Good to see the wild ponies too.

As the day went on the weather improved a little and it was a real treat to finish on the flat Granite Trail. We could just see, the well known, Sourton Tor in the distance. Looking forward to better conditions tomorrow and starting back on The Granite Trail.
