Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 14, Hornillos del Camino to Castrojeriz.

We headed straight out from Hornillos del Camino back onto the wide open meseta. As we looked back towards our start we were fortunate to see the sunrise.

Our day continued across this very remote area with views in every direction.

As with yesterday, there was very little shade with the exception of two places of interest. Firstly we came to Hontanas a small village that we could see in the distance for many miles before our arrival.  There are a huge variety of way markers on The Camino but the one at this village certainly won the prize for the largest!

Our next view was of the ruins of the very impressive 14th century San Anton Convent.

This made for a very welcome opportunity to rest and find some shade. Finally we have arrived in Castrojeriz an incredibly impressive village that can be seen for miles due to the it’s very prominent but ruined castle.

It’s been another lovely day of walking. Tomorrow, the temperature is due to rise and so we are setting off very early!
