Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 15, Castrojeriz to Fromista.

We set out very early this morning to avoid, as much as possible, walking in the heatwave that is currently in the area. The temperature reached 30c this afternoon. As always, with early morning walks it was quiet, cool and peaceful. Amazing views too.

The day began with an extremely steep climb out of Castrojeriz and then an equally steep descent. Just as we reached the top of the hill, we were rewarded with an amazing view of the plateau we would walk on today. We could also see our path stretching far into the distance.

We had expected this area to be quite barren but we were wrong! Nearly every area we could see was planted with many different crops and  there was much evidence of farming throughout the day.

The other unexpected part of today was The Canal de Castilla. This provided a very welcome tree lined path for much of the last part of today’s route. A real treat. It’s used for irrigation and leisure purposes and we saw people preparing for a boat trip. Think it might have been cheating for us to use this transport!

It’s been another very different day.
