Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 28, Kidderminster to Compton

We were very happy this morning when George, our son in law, met us at 6.30am to collect our main kit to take to Compton. Thank you George! It has been a real treat not having to carry all our kit for the day, especially as it has been our longest walk so far at twenty miles.

We then had another treat to be back on the canal for most of the day. Our first destination today was to visit Sal and Boyd in Cookley for breakfast. As we reached the bridge to leave the canal we were absolutely thrilled to see a sign had been put up for us saying Go Kev, Go Janet! It was just amazing and we will remember it for a long, long time. After a lovely breakfast it was great that Sal walked with us for 5 miles and also that Boyd moved our day packs. They were also able to give some help with local information and navigation. Thank you so much for everything.

Following this lovely start to the day we continued our walk along the canal. Another highlight for the day came when we moved into Staffordshire, county number six. This canal, The Staffordshire and Worcestershire, was really interesting and very busy with working and leisure narrow boats.

We finished our day on the dismantled railway line into Compton. We’re now staying with daughter Kate, son in law George and grandchildren Arron, April and Leo for three nights. The perfect end to the perfect day.

  1. So lovely to see you both and enjoyed my little walk along the canal with you seasoned travellers. Have a well earned rest with the family and good luck with the rest of your travels.
