Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 28, O’Cebreiro to Triacastela.

O’Cebreiro was a really interesting place to stay, its streets are cobbled and it still has some of the traditional round houses known as pallozas.

When we set off this morning the rain had returned and the wonderful views of yesterday had disappeared! Luckily the first part of our route took us under trees.

The track took us to Alto de San Roque where we saw the imposing statue of a medieval pilgrim looking out over Galicia.

Yesterday in O’Cebreiro we saw this statue of a female pilgrim. This is to try to redress the balance and show that there were also a number of early female pilgrims.

Our journey today was certainly not a straightforward descent and there were plenty of ups as well! Eventually the cloud cover started to clear and we were rewarded with some great views.

One hamlet of interest on the route was called Hospital. This very small place is said to have had one of the first ever early pilgrim hospitals and so is now called Hospital.

The final descent into Triacastela was lovely, on great paths and took us through some very old working livestock farms. This tree looked to be very old too.
