Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 36, Warrington to Wigan.

We had a real treat last night when we went to Sandra and Tony’s house for a lovely home cooked meal. It was great to catch up. Today and tomorrow they are also moving our main kit along the trail. Thank you so much!

We continued our journey through Warrington Town centre crossing the M62 on our way out. A slight change to our route meant we walked along a country road with great pavements and views as far as Golborne. We once again crossed the M6 and then dropped down onto the canal. This time The Leeds Liverpool Canal. It was really quiet and peaceful after busy Warrington.

There were very few narrow boats about but really great towpaths. These got better and better as we moved along towards Wigan and it was great to see paths being used by so many different people. The final stretch passes by Wigan Flashes Country Park. This has been created by a regeneration project of the old power station and mining industry. All really interesting.

As we neared Wigan we met cyclists Lyndon and Peter. We had a great chat about the local area and different adventures. Thanks for the information about tomorrow’s route!

Our final destination, for today, Wigan has a lovely town centre with a really interesting Town Hall building.
