Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 38, Rufford to Preston.

We rejoined The Leeds and Liverpool Canal to begin our journey towards Preston. Today the canal travelled through wonderful arable farmland all  incredibly neatly sown with crops.

Following a small section on roads we then made our way along a track and across more wonderful open countryside towards The River Ribble. We had planned to meet Mick and Chris from The Spine Race but didn’t know they were going to provide support with an amazing checkpoint. What a fantastic surprise to have hot and cold drinks with ice and food provided. Thank you so much it really was very special.

It was lovely to all walk together along the River Ribble as we headed towards Preston. Not sure why there was a stile but we had to take a photo. There was no fence in sight! As we walked along we were also joined by Michelle for the final stretch into the City of Preston.

It’s been a great day’s walking and looking forward to a rest day tomorrow. Huge thanks to Mick, Chris and Michelle.

  1. I must say how impressed l have been with the Blog. Especially after a days walk you manage to record and publish your experiences, with photos, when many of us would be glad of a lie down. A modern day Pevsner.
The journey also seems to have been quite a social event, with all the people you have met, new friends and old, adding to the experience.

  2. Great to catch up with your travels. You seem to be doing really well. Still hoping to meet up with you but need to get organised or you’ll be finished!
