Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 43, Burton in Kendal to Garth Row.

Our day began by heading across a sheep field next to the M6 to rejoin The Lancaster Canal. As we walked along it was amazing to see, Spine Race Legend, John Bamber heading towards us. We were so pleased to see him and it was great to walk and chat and gather local information. We travelled with John until he headed off the canal into his village. Thank you so much for coming to see us and for publicising our walk and charity.

A few more miles along the canal saw us finish our canal walking for this adventure. We’ve loved the flat canals! Once we reached Crooklands we joined the A65 and headed towards Kendal. A busy road but great pavements. On reaching Kendal we found a bench for a rest and some lunch and were surprised by Jo and Ian from The Spine and a rather shy Olwyn. We knew they were going to meet us but weren’t sure where! It was lovely to have company into Kendal and due to their local knowledge we actually walked along the old canal route. Thank you so much for coming to see us.

As we left Kendal we headed out onto the edge of The Lake District. The views were just so beautiful and so good to be out in the countryside. Of course the hills are back but it’s worth it for the fabulous scenery. We passed a sign for The Dales Way which we have walked previously and brought back happy memories. We’re now in lovely Garth Row, it’s just so peaceful and quiet. Lovely!
