Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 45, Shap to Catterlen.

Our accommodation had been changed last night and so a new route was planned. We had a  brief walk along the A6 before heading off across very quiet country roads, with amazing views, towards Little Stickland. We then followed the road to Great Stickland. On the way we were very lucky to meet Robin and Maurice Capstick who were building a dry stone wall. We had a lovely chat about our walk and the local area including The Howgills. They were certainly building an excellent wall. So skilful.

We had just arrived at Great Stickland when another Spine Legend came to see us, this time Bobby Cullen. It was great to see him and have a catch up just before he heads off to The Spine Race. Thank you so much for coming out to see us.

Our day continued along really quiet small roads into Penrith. A really interesting town with lots of great  architecture. A further short walk along the roads saw us head off across another very overgrown track and then fields to our destination of Catterlen.

  1. Great to see the stonewalling a very skilful but dying trade. You really have met some interesting people.
