Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 46, Catterlen to Carlisle.

We set off from lovely, quiet and peaceful Catterlen in clear and sunny weather. It certainly is a beautiful place to visit. Our walk once again took us over the M6, infact we crossed it twice before 9am. We really have lost count of the amount of times we have been over and under it!

The route today was to follow a small, very quiet country road that ran parallel to the, ever present, M6 all the way to Carlisle. Not too much map reading needed! We passed both arable and dairy farmland with wonderful views of the distant Pennines to the East.

There were many interesting farm and residential buildings along the route. Many were built in the distinctive local red stone. The Cottage Wood Methodist Centre was a lovely example of this. Unfortunately we didn’t see any red squirrels.

It turned out to be a day of two halves with the weather. After the lovely morning it was black skies and rain all afternoon. Now we’re in the very busy City of Carlisle, a definite contrast to our quiet start this morning! Rest Day tomorrow.

  1. Can’t believe you have reached Carlisle no mean feat in itself! The Scottish borders will soon be in sight. Very hot here today so hope weather is kind to you. Keep it up both!
