Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 50, Lockerbie to Beattock.

We began our day by exploring Lockerbie and visiting one of the two memorials that remember the victims of the Lockerbie bombing.

We then walked through the town centre and saw the life size sheep statues that have been installed. They celebrate the fact that Lockerbie has been home to Scotland’s largest lamb market since the 18th century.

Following this we then rejoined the road north for the second day. This time in the rain to start. Luckily it soon cleared up and we just had a mostly cloudy day. Good walking weather.

In the absence of any villages on today’s route our only stopping point was Annandale Water Services which turned out to be a real find. The views were just amazing over a beautiful lake towards the hills. A unexpectedly lovely place for a lunch stop!

Now we’re in the remote and very peaceful village of Beattock. It’s been another interesting day with lots of fantastic views!
