Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 66, Invergarry to Invermoriston.

We started with another steep narrow path this morning taking us up to join another woodland track. We travelled past the remainder of Loch Oich on this lovely wide track. After this we once again joined the Caledonian Canal, this time with a fantastic footpath. Unusually the path goes onto a thin strip of land for a few miles with the canal on one side and The River Oich on the other side. It was such fantastic walking, the canal was totally calm with stunning reflections of trees, buildings and boats.

At Callochy Lock there was a boat ready to move through the lock, this was waiting for others to arrive. The lock keeper waits for a few boats to arrive and then takes them through the lock together. We didn’t see many boats today but it was a lovely sight to see these three coming together.

A highlight of the day was arriving at the well known Fort Augustus, although it was very very busy. The route today has been so quiet it was quite a shock to be somewhere with so many people!

We then arrived at the even more well known Loch Ness. It’s such a beautiful sight and luckily our route took us very close for some of the way. Our final interesting view for today was of The Old Invermoriston Bridge from which you can view the very impressive falls.

It’s been a day of mixed terrain with lots of ups and downs but also with lots of interest and stunning scenery.

  1. Hi guys glad you’re plodding on so marvellously- hats off but maybe not when it’s not hot it’s raining!

  2. I agree with Sandra, hats off to you both or as they say in France ‘château’.

Laugh, I nearly bought a round.
