Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 71, Alness to Bonar Bridge.

So, we decided to use our rest day yesterday wisely and walked six miles of today’s route as far as Strath Rory! This meant we only had fourteen miles to do today.

This section has seen a return to forestry areas with vast swathes of trees on the hillsides. We’ve walked on roads that have been largely very quiet although yesterday there were a few lorries going to the local quarry.

The views today have been, without doubt, some of the best we have seen on the entire adventure. It’s really hard to capture just how beautiful it is with a few snaps on a mobile phone!

There were a few remote houses dotted about which seem to be crofts. We saw our first view completely out to sea when we could see The Moray Firth in the distance. This was a lovely stop for our morning break! However, the best scenery  was still to come when we reached Cadha Mor with it’s breathtaking views over Dornoch Firth. The locals call this Million Dollar View, we can certainly see why. A perfect lunch stop!

We then descended towards Ardgay, on the way in we saw this old AA box which is one of only twenty one left in Britain. This is the furthest North surviving box. From Ardgay we crossed the bridge into Bonar Bridge with even more great views of Dornoch Firth and Sutherland Firth too.

It’s been a day of amazing scenery.
