Today we have followed the A836 all day, as can be seen from the pictures this is an extremely quiet road! It has passed through open land for our entire route and mainly runs parallel to Strath Tirry. The map shows much forestry land but most of this had been felled.
The views have been of wide open land with just the very occasional croft. This is definitely the least populated area we have walked through. In the far distance we could see mountains such as Bienn Leoid. There’s been a North Westerly wind blowing all day which has added to the feeling of solitude in the wide open land. Towards the end of the day we entered what is known as Flow Country. This is one of Scotland’s natural treasures, a vast expanse of blanket bog, sheltered straths, moorland and mountain. We’ll continue to walk through some of this remarkable area as we head North.
We’re now at the very remote Crask which has just an Inn and one croft. The Inn is very well known not only for it’s remote setting but because it also holds religious services having recently been gifted to The Scottish Episcopal Church.
Another very different day and very different accommodation too!

Really enjoying following your journey!
Remember it well from last year. One of the best bits of the cycling route, great to see you back on it!
