Janet and Kevin’s Very Big Walk

Day 8, Logrono to Najera.

It was another very early start this morning to complete the nearly twenty mile walk. So lovely walking in the cool of the morning.

It’s been a day of meeting lots of interesting people and we heard that on the day we crossed The Pyrenees in snow 20 people needed to be rescued. We’re glad we made it safely over and that is behind us. We are now firmly in The Rioja region.

We’ve walked for nearly the whole day right through the middle of huge vineyards and have been closer to the grape vines than on any other day. We passed an Osbourne Bull which can be seen for miles around. Advertising is banned on motorways but this traditional feature is allowed to remain.

We enjoyed a lovely break in the village of Navarrete and were privileged to see inside the beautiful church.

Another feature of today was passing the area where people make crosses from twigs and sticks and place them on a fence. We were amazed that this went on for one mile and every cross was different.

It’s been another day of fantastic walking and it’s been great to meet so many interesting people who have come from all over the world to walk The Camino.
